PGL Wallachia Season 2 Recap
The second season of Wallachia was an exciting tournament, despite being on a patch similar to TI. The diversity of strategies and hero picks was higher than expected, making it a thrilling event to watch.
Historic Victory for South America
One of the most exciting aspects was the first-ever LAN victory for a South American team. Heroic emerged victorious, beating Team Falcons 3-1 in the grand finals. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the region, which has been steadily gaining competitiveness in Dota 2.
Notable Absences
Notable teams like Team Liquid, Team Spirit, Gaimin Gladiators, and Xtreme Gaming did not participate. However, Heroic‘s victory should not be overshadowed by their absence. Three South American teams made it to the top 8, with Beastcoast narrowly missing the top 4.
Tournament MVP: bc.JimPark
bc.JimPark, the tournament MVP, played a crucial role in Heroic’s success. His performance was reminiscent of K1 from the early days of Dota, redefining the carry’s place in the meta. His ability to carry the game was a highlight of the tournament, proving that hard-carrying is still possible with skilled players.
Diverse Meta and Hero Picks
The tournament showcased a diverse meta, with only one hero having a 90%+ contest rate and only three being picked or banned in 80%+ of the games. This diversity in team preferences and ideas made the tournament feel refreshing compared to previous years, where the focus was on picking the best meta heroes.
Dynamic Gameplay
The return of non-aura Offlaners added to the dynamic gameplay. Players began to play to their heroes’ strengths, rather than trying to make them fit into an aura-carrying role. This change made the games feel more open-ended and strategic, with smart gambits happening frequently.
Exciting Future Ahead
PGL Wallachia Season 2 was an awesome start to the new competitive season. We look forward to seeing new faces rise to the top and are excited about what’s next. Hopefully, future patches will continue to redefine the meta and make the game even more exciting.
