Munster Rugby Gaming has added two new members to its coaching staff: Josh “Furndog” Furneaux as Head Coach and Jon “Just Jon” Ellis as Performance Director.
Furneaux and Ellis previously worked with Excel Esports in its first year in the LEC. They played a crucial role in establishing the team’s presence at Twickenham Stadium, the home of English rugby. Currently, they are leading the organization’s preseason training as they prepare for the newly formed NLC and UK League of Legends Championship Season.
Josh “Furndog” Furneaux, Head Coach of Munster Rugby Gaming, said: “I’m ecstatic to build a project that fully encapsulates my personal philosophy of player development, and to do that alongside Jon again makes it all the more special. We plan to dominate the flourishing ERL ecosystem, show serious intent to succeed beyond that, and perform at a high level right from the start.”
Munster Rugby Gaming is a partnership between Irish rugby side Munster and Ireland-based Phelan Gaming. The focus is to “make Ireland a force in European esports and put Munster Rugby on the map internationally.” The main aim is to focus on preseason alongside commercial infrastructure.
The NLC competition begins in June with two sets of matches each week for seven weeks. Week seven includes a third day of matches. The season final will be played in August at DreamHack Summer in Jönköping, Sweden, featuring a 1M SEK ($100,000) prize pool and top teams from the UK and Nordic regions, such as Fnatic, Excel, ENCE, GODSENT, and many more.
