The 2020 Pulsefire Cup: A Unique League of Legends Tournament

The Pulsefire Cup is a League of Legends tournament hosted by the Vietnam (VCS) region, featuring unique rules. If you’re looking for competitive League of Legends to fill the gap until professional leagues resume for the Summer Split, the VCS has you covered. The Pulsefire Cup started this week and is already one of the most unique tournaments of all time.

Tournament Structure

The tournament features eight teams, split into two groups, playing a single round-robin. The top two teams from each group advance to the knockout stages. The single-elimination format includes semi-finals (best of three games) and a final (best of five games).

Pulsefire Law

A unique twist in the tournament is the Pulsefire Law. Champions who own a Pulsefire or Praetorian skin are placed in the Pulsefire Group. These champions cannot be banned by either team, and each team must draft two of them for their composition in every game. In the knockout stages, champions from outside the Pulsefire Group can only be picked or banned once during a series.

Competing Teams

The caliber of talent is high. Six of the eight participating teams competed in the VCS Spring Split, while the other two teams are entering the VCS for the Summer Split after winning in the promotion tournament. Here are the eight competitors:

  • CERBERUS Esports
  • Dashing Buffalo
  • EVOS Esports
  • GAM Esports
  • OverPower Esports
  • Percent Esports
  • Team Flash
  • Team Secret

Prize and Viewing

The winner of the Pulsefire Cup will win 100,000,000 Vietnamese Dong ($4,282 USD). The tournament began on Sunday, May 17, and concludes on Sunday, May 24. It can be viewed in full on the VETV7 Esports YouTube channel.
