Riot Announces MSI Tournament Cancellation

With the spring splits concluding worldwide, fans eagerly anticipate the first international tournament of the year, MSI. Teams like Cloud9 and G2 are set to compete, but this year’s event has been canceled by Riot due to public health concerns.

More from International Tournaments

This cancellation renders the Spring Splits less significant and postpones international play for months. However, it may heighten excitement for Worlds, as Riot also announced changes to Worlds seeding. The LPL and LEC will receive a fourth seed, while the LCK and LCS retain three seeds. The PCS and Vietnam will have two seeds each. The CBLOL, TCL, LJL, LLA, OPL, and LCL will keep their single seed each.

These additional seeds are based on international performance over the past two years. China has been the recent world champion, and Europe has been the runner-up. This move is expected to elevate competition by featuring top-tier teams instead of lower-tier ones. However, it may widen the gap between major regions and others.

Stay tuned for future developments and hope for a successful Worlds event in 2020. In the meantime, stay safe and get ready for the start of the summer splits.
