Gpk Returns to BetBoom Team, Kiyotaka Benched

On January 7, the Eastern European Dota 2 team BetBoom Team announced that Danil “gpk” Skutin has returned to their main roster after a break from competitive play since September 2024. With gpk back as the mid laner, Gleb “kiyotaka” Ziryanov has been benched.

Following their 7th-8th place finish at The International (TI) 2024, BetBoom overhauled their roster in September 2024. They acquired kiyotaka, Ivan “Pure” Moskalenko, and Vladislav “Kataomi`” Semenov, while gpk and Alexander “TORONTOTOKYO” Khertek took breaks from competitive play.

Despite the changes, BetBoom had a strong end to 2024, achieving top 3 finishes in the BetBoom Dacha Belgrade 2024 and ESL One Bangkok 2024, a second place finish in DreamLeague Season 24, and their first-ever tournament victory in Dota 2 at BLAST Slam I.

Gpk’s return is expected to help BetBoom become a contender for TI 2025. As one of the best mid laners in Europe, gpk brings experience and continuity, having been with BetBoom since December 2022.

The updated BetBoom Dota 2 roster for 2025 includes:

  • Ivan “Pure” Moskalenko
  • Danil “gpk” Skutin
  • Matvey “MieRo” Vasyunin
  • Vitalie “Save-” Melnic
  • Vladislav “Kataomi`” Semenov

BetBoom will participate in their first tournament of 2025, DreamLeague Season 25, which takes place from February 16 to March 2.

Analysis

The return of gpk to BetBoom Team marks a significant shift in the team’s dynamics and strategy. Given gpk’s extensive experience and his role in the team since December 2022, his presence is likely to stabilize the roster and enhance team cohesion. This move could be crucial as BetBoom aims to build on their recent successes and push for a stronger performance in TI 2025.

The benching of kiyotaka, despite his contributions since joining in September 2024, indicates that BetBoom is prioritizing consistency and the proven chemistry between gpk and the other team members. Kiyotaka’s performance was notable, but the team’s decision suggests they believe gpk’s return will offer greater long-term benefits.

BetBoom’s strong finish to 2024, including their victory at BLAST Slam I, highlights the team’s potential and resilience. With gpk back in the lineup, they are well-positioned to tackle the upcoming tournaments, starting with DreamLeague Season 25. This event will be a key test of the team’s new configuration and their ability to maintain their competitive edge.

In the broader context of the Dota 2 scene, roster changes are common as teams seek to optimize their lineups for major tournaments. BetBoom’s decision reflects this trend, as seen with other teams like OG Esports, Team Spirit, and Tundra Esports, all of which have made significant roster adjustments heading into 2025.

As the Dota 2 season unfolds, BetBoom’s performance will be closely watched, especially given the high expectations following gpk’s return. Their ability to integrate gpk seamlessly and maintain their competitive form will be crucial in their quest for success in the upcoming year.
