Dota 2 Ranking System

Ranked Matchmaking
Dota 2 features a ranking system integrated into its matchmaking queue, placing players into competitive tiers represented by medals. These medals and their respective leagues are displayed on each player’s profile, showcasing their highest competitive level achieved.

Ranking Tiers
The ranking system consists of eight distinct leagues:

  • Herald: 0 to ~720 MMR
  • Guardian: ~840 to 1560 MMR
  • Crusader: ~1680 to 2400 MMR
  • Archon: ~2520 to 3240 MMR
  • Legend: ~3360 to 4080 MMR
  • Ancient: ~4200 to 4920 MMR
  • Divine: ~5040 to 5760 MMR
  • Immortal: 6000+ MMR

MMR (Matchmaking Rating)

Each player’s MMR is a numerical value representing their skill level, fluctuating based on wins and losses. MMR increases by approximately 25 points per win and decreases by approximately 25 points per loss. Calibration matches determine a player’s initial MMR, which can be up to 3,500 for new accounts[1][4].

Ranked Confidence

The ranked confidence system adjusts a player’s rank based on their activity level. Inactive players’ confidence decreases over time, affecting their MMR changes. Regular participation in ranked matches maintains or boosts ranked confidence, ensuring fair matchmaking[2][4].

Calibration Matches

To unlock ranked matchmaking, players must complete 100 hours of gameplay and satisfy additional requirements, including playing 25 unranked matches and a random number of additional matches[4]. Calibration matches are used to determine a player’s initial league, based solely on wins and losses.

Seasonal Resets

Each competitive season lasts about six months, with medals and leagues resetting at the beginning of every new season. Players must go through recalibration matches to maintain their rank in the new season[4].

Leaderboards

Regional leaderboards display top players in each major region (America, Europe, Southeast Asia, and China). To appear on the leaderboards, players must have an MMR above average, at least 300 matchmaking games played, 100 ranked matchmaking games, and one ranked game in the last 21 days in their respective region[4].
