Revitalized Carry Meta: New Heroes and Strategies in Dota 2

One of the biggest complaints in the last patch was the low carry diversity. The meta was dominated by Luna, Medusa, and Dragon Knight — a flash-farming, scaling trio. Despite only receiving a smaller patch update, the current meta is healthier, with several notable carries making a comeback.

Since the changes to Blade Fury, which now scales with attack speed, many players have experimented with a Mjollnir Juggernaut build, with relative success. However, this doesn’t work as well as the traditional Battle Fury build with the Bladeform facet. The ability to farm faster and sustain more damage is superior in the current, slower meta. While maximizing damage output with Mjollnir and Power Treads is effective, the utility, movement speed, and armor from Phase Boots into Battlefury are stronger.

High-level players no longer opt for double Wraith Bands; instead, they aim to get Battlefury as soon as possible and then transition into Yasha and its derivatives. Common continuations of this build include Aghanim’s Scepter for added gap-closing and tempo plays with items like Butterfly or Eye of Skadi.

In late game, ensure you have your Blink Dagger and possibly Nullifier at the ready. The hero is heavily countered by various defensive options, making Nullifier almost mandatory in every game. Between Ogre Magi and Lich dominating the support meta, Nullifier remains a crucial item.

For similar reasons, the Bone Guard facet should be the default choice. It’s tough to deal with Skeletons, which often zone out and sometimes kill enemy supports. However, avoid this facet against heroes like Sand King.

The carry meta shake-up is exciting, with the resurgence of some heroes leading to other heroes in different roles. This refreshes the game, even if we hope for something major early next year. For now, there’s plenty to explore further. What are your thoughts on this matter, and do you have any other hidden gems for the current meta that you’re willing to share?
